4 Civilians Killed In Improvised Bomb Blast In S. Afghanistan

Four civilians killed in an bomb in Afghanistan’s southern province of Kandahar Thursday night, local police on Friday.

“The victims, including a woman two children, were members of a family. The blast which occurred in Zartali locality of Shah Wali Kot district also destroyed their vehicle,” provincial police spokesman, Jamal Barakzai, told Xinhua.

Relatives of the victims were notified by the district police, he said. Militants in Afghanistan have been using homemade improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to make roadside bombs and landmines to target security forces, but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.

The Afghan civilians continue to bear the brunt of armed conflicts as more 2,950 civilians were killed and over 5,540 others wounded due to fighting in the country in 2020, according to the country’s independent human rights commission.

Out of total casualties, 330 women and 565 children were killed in separate incidents in 2020, according to the commission.
