KATHMANDU: On the occasion of the 2565th Buddha Jayanti and the Ubhauli festival, Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba wished all Nepalis happiness, peace, prosperity, and continued progress.
In a message of congratulations on the occasion, leader Deuba stated that the country has yet to be free of incidents of violence, killing, kidnappings, and human rights violations.
Noting that all-around development is impossible without long-term peace, he stated that there are numerous opportunities for us to build a peaceful and prosperous Nepal.
Deuba stated that the country is currently dealing with the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has proven to be many times more contagious and thus concerning than the first wave.
He expressed concern as the number of deaths has risen due to a lack of ICU beds, ventilators, and oxygen in the face of rising infection.
The main opposition party leader urged all to fully obey the health safety protocols in light of the increased risk of COVID-19, calling on the people to be alert in such a situation.
The NC president also urged everyone to follow Gautam Buddha’s precepts, the proponent of peace, tolerance, and goodwill, in their thoughts, words, and deeds, and to oppose violence and killings.
He also wished that peace reign in the country and that all citizens be free of injustice, excesses, and all forms of repression.
