Mr. Binod Chaudhary, Nepal’s richest man, owns the Chaudhary Group, which has established Fiber Internet Service in Nepal. The Chaudhary Group has already formed CG Telecom in order to provide low-cost mobile services in the country. Because they were unable to obtain a unified license to run mobile networks and basic telephony services, they are now venturing into this internet business. CG Telecom Fiber Internet Service is recently opened in Kathamndu under the name CG Net, with the intention of capturing the market now occupied by other ISPs such as Nepal Telecom, Worldink, Subisu, and Vianet.
CG Net’s current internet plan is 120 Mbps (the fastest internet speed among all ISPs in Nepal), which will cover the internet needs of family members for work from home, multimedia streaming, study from home, online meetings, and so on.
CG has already stated plans to build the necessary infrastructure in order to aggressively assert its market presence. Furthermore, they had begun construction on a data center in Satungal, Kathmandu, which would allow them to operate internet services over fiber.
After constructing the necessary infrastructure, CG has now made fiber internet available in several areas of Kathmandu Valley. It is currently available in Jawalakhel, Jhamsikhel, Bhanimandal, and Ekantakuna in the first phase.
CG Net will cover the entire Kathmandu valley in less than a year. The customer service center has been built in the CG digital branches in Jawalakhel, Kumaripati, Kirtipur, Nayabazar, Minbhawan, and Trade Tower (Thapathali).
As previously stated, they would provide additional services in the same fiber later on, including IPTV, video OTT services, and many more. For the internet infrastructure, the ISP has used the most recent technology from Nokia.
Speed, cost, and availability of CG Net Fiber
CG Telecom’s first launch offered CG net fiber at a speed of 120 Mbps for the first time in Nepal. The monthly cost of CG net fiber is Rs 999. For the time being, it appears to be a special offer that also includes free installation and no drop wire fees. In contrast, you must pay for the wireless router, which comes in single-band or dual-band configurations.
The cost of the wireless router drops as you subscribe for three months, six months, and twelve months. Finally, there is a Rs 500 refundable payment for registration.
|CG net Internet||Per month||3 months||6 months||12 months|
|120 Mbps||Rs 999||Rs 2,997||Rs 5,994||Rs 11,988|
|Single band router||Rs 2500||Rs 2000||Rs 1500||Free|
|Dual band router||Rs 3500||Rs 3000||Rs 2500||Free|
For the time being, the CG net fiber service is only available in a few locations in Lalitpur, including Jawalakhel, Jhamsikhel, Ekantakuna, and Bhanimandal. We should expect them to launch fiber internet in other regions of the Kathmandu valley soon, like they did with the original launch.

Unable to obtain a unified license
For a long time, CG Telecom made every attempt to get a combined license to operate mobile and basic phone services. They also announced a partnership with Huawei to launch 4G services in the country. Because they were unable to obtain the license, CG shifted its focus to the CG Telecom Fiber Internet service. The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has previously granted CG a license to import bandwidth and operate network services.
Furthermore, after acquiring a license to run basic communications services, the corporation has already set its sights on aggressively supplying 5G Services. The present building of the data center and optical fiber networks will also contribute in the realization of its 5G ambition in the future. For the time being, they are primarily focused on Fiber to the Home (FTTH) service.
CG Telecom has also been registered as a Public Limited Company. As a result, it will distribute its portion to the entire public. Its stock can be purchased privately through an IPO or on the stock exchange sooner.
According to the business’s General Manager, Mr. Madhusudan Poudel, the private operating firm will now be known as CG Communications Limited. Nonetheless, the company recently completed all of the necessary paperwork to change its name with the corporate registrar’s office.
Likewise, they notified the regulating agency of the name change. CG, on the other hand, has been waiting for the approval of the GSM mobile service for quite some time. It appears that there will be no favorable outcome for the company for the time being. CG asserts that if the firm obtains a license, it will be able to deliver low-cost data and voice services. They may have turned to a public business limited to satisfy their responsibility with the significant expenditure required.
If CG Telecom increases its Fiber Internet Service while maintaining low pricing, it will undoubtedly give other ISPs some competition. Other ISPs will be forced to cut their prices as a result of this. The scenario will be identical to the one devised by Jio in India. However, it will immediately benefit all Nepalese by providing low-cost internet access and enabling additional job opportunities.
Dish Home and Prabhu Net have also launched Fiber internet service in select areas of the city. We may anticipate CG to move at the same pace in building the fiber network and delivering services to customers.
So, are you willing to ditch your existing ISP in favor of the low-cost CG Telecom Fiber Internet Service? Will you use CG Net Fiber Service or continue to utilize your current ISP? Tell us what you think in the comments section below; as always, we’d love to hear from you. Thank you very much!
