Melamchi water will not be provided in the Kathmandu Valley for over a month. While the tunnel is being emptied and inspected, the water supply is being disturbed.
When the contract with Sino Hydro, a Chinese construction company, was signed two years ago, the operating method stated that the tunnel would be filled with water and then emptied. If no problems are discovered during the tunnel inspection, it will take 30 to 40 days to bring water back.
Melamchi water was initially introduced to Kathmandu around three months ago. Since last Falgun, 170 million gallons of water have been delivered daily from Melamchi to Kathmandu as part of the project’s first phase. The building will bring an additional 170 million liters of water per day to the area. In the 2019 fiscal year, the government has set out Rs. 3.51 billion for the project.
