Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Nepal does not require prior authorisation from Nepal Rastra Bank. With the Nepal Rastra Bank’s issuance of the Foreign Investment and Foreign Debt Management Regulations, 2078 BS, the bank’s approval is no longer required to bring in foreign investment.
At the same time, it is no longer necessary to obtain NRB approval for foreign currency entering the country for foreign investment. Likewise, investors will be able to readily calculate their return on investment.
According to the NRB, such regulations were enacted within the authority granted by Section 12 of the Foreign Exchange Act of 2019 and Sub-section (2) of Section 110 of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act of 2058.
