KATHMANDU: In Rolpa on Saturday, police discovered a large number of magazines and ammunition for modern weapons.
The ammunition was discovered near a community forest in Tribeni Rural Municipality’s Rampur.
23 SMG magazines, one M16 magazine, and one LMG magazine were recovered, according to Rolpa Police Chief Naresh Raj Subedi. Similarly, the site yielded 752 AK-47 bullets, 208 rounds of 7.62 mm bullets, and 10 rounds of 9 mm bullets.
Police retrieved the ammunition after receiving a tip from the Nepal Army’s Batuk Dal.
According to Subedi, the contraband was not old but seemed to be new and had to have been covered during transportation. “These do not appear to be magazines and bullets from the insurgency era,” Subedi said.
Time and time again, large amounts of firearms are discovered in Rolpa. Last year, the Nepal Army confiscated a large number of arms from a village in Rolpa, but kept it quiet due to political pressure.
