On Thursday evening, after President Bidhya Bhandari called on political parties to form a government under Article 76 (5), Koirala took to social media to say that Prime Minister KP Oli recommending initiating Article 76 (5) without resigning or going to parliament and President Bidhya Bhandari following suit meant undermining the constitution and an attempt to destroy the constitution and push the country into conflict.
Another NC chief, Ram Chandra Poudel, complained that the window given to Members of Parliament (MPs) to form a new government was too short, and that the President was about to throw out the constitution in the process.
Leader Poudel took to social media to claim that such a brief window meant constitutional attack attempts. “Giving less than 24 hours to form a government in accordance with Article 76 (5) is tantamount to tossing the constitution after dissolving the legislature,” Poudel wrote. According to Poudel, a minimum of three days should be allowed to establish a new government in accordance with convention.
The meeting has been called since the President has given political parties until Friday at 5 p.m. to stake their claims for government.
