The 9th Annual General Meeting of Nepal Nepal Clearing House Ltd. (NCHL) the ’s annual report for FY2076/77 and increased the company’s paid-up capital to NRs. 411,350,400 from NRs. 298,080,000 by issuing a 38 percent bonus share. The capital has been increased mainly to support the company’s philosophy of reinvesting in additional payment infrastructures, new goods and services, and programs, as well as NCHL’s plans to incorporate the National Payment Switch. The meeting voted to approve a 2% cash dividend to offset the bonus’s tax provisions.

Despite a noticeable rise in total transactions in all of NCHL’s processes, the company’s net profit fell by more than 22.2 percent in FY 2076/77. The Return On Capital Employed remained at 29 percent at the end of FY2076/77, down from over 38 percent the previous year. The decline in profit is primarily to lower transaction fees in almost all systems; cross-subsidizing some of the traditional transactions of the Government of Nepal and related institutions; full fee waivers during the COVID-19 pandemic from the 11th Chaitra 2076 to the end of Asar 2077; and fierce competition in the payments industry.

Mr. Ujjal Rajbhandari (General Manager of Himalayan Bank Ltd.), Mr. Mahesh Sharma Dhakal (Senior Deputy CEO of Global Bank Ltd.), and Mr. Srijan Malla were elected to the Board of Directors of Nepal Clearing House Limited at the 9th Annual General Meeting (Head of IT of Siddhartha Bank Ltd.). The previous members had served out their terms. NCHL is represented on the board by a member from Nepal Rastra Bank, three members from commercial banks, and one member each from banks and finance companies, with NRB holding 10% and BFIs 90%.

During fiscal year 2076/77, NCHL processed a total of 20.6 million transactions worth NRs 9.7 trillion through clearing and settlement systems, including NCHL-ECC, NCHL-IPS, and connectIPS. Within NCHL’s network, there are 63 banks and financial institutions that are direct members, with access to over 5,800 bank branches, and over 56 non-bank institutions that are indirect/technical members. NCHL is an acronym for National Collegiate Hockey League.
