In Kathmandu, bird flu has been detected.
Bird flu has been confirmed in two locations in Kathmandu, Kirtipur and Chandragiri, according to the Department of Livestock Services.
After confirming the bird flu infection at two locations in Kirtipur and one in Chandragiri on Monday, a team was dispatched to destroy the birds in the area, according to Chandra Dhakal, the department’s information officer.
Initially, technicians have been deployed since Wednesday morning to slaughter approximately 800 turkeys and disinfect the area, according to Dhakal.
Following a report of an unnatural death of a turkey, the department collected samples and tested bird flu at a central laboratory using a real-time PCR method.
The department has stated that the details will be made public by Wednesday evening, after the birds have been destroyed and disinfected.
Bird flu was discovered in local chickens and turkeys in Tarkeshwor, Kathmandu, Nakhu, Lalitpur, and other areas a few months ago.
