President Bidya Devi Bhandari has officially launched the distribution of water brought to Kathmandu from the Melamchi river in Sindhupalchok, five days after the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited began distributing it.
During a special function held at KathmanduR17;s Bhrikutimandap on Friday, President Bhandari unveiled a gold-plated stone spout to commemorate the launch. KP Sharma Oli, the Prime Minister of Nepal, was also present.
According to Tiresh Prasad Khatri, the Melamchi Water Supply Project’s Leader, about 15,000 users along Kathmandu’s Ring Road are receiving water from Melamchi in the first phase.
It is very important to make a note that the Melamchi Water Program was a vision of Nepali Congress leader and prime minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai.
